This is my first attempt on making a MV Review. I am in no way an expert and these are just my opinions.
SHINee – Everybody
I am not a Shawol although I like SHINee. Their songs are really hard to peg since they have various genre. I am an MVP and Onew has been at constant war with Sunggyu for my 89line bias list (though Henry will always be first). The song ‘Everybody’ is catchy and the beats are strong, vocals are quite good and overall, I like it.
The MV started with a dark carnival theme that reminded me of jabawokee; creepy. Then Shinee appeared and the song started when the masked kid ‘plugged’ and revived SHINee. If you don’t have an understanding of Korean and watch the MV, you might think that they are in a video game (well the uniforms reminded me of a villain in Street Fighter).
I took the liberty to search the translations of the song and the MV became a bit clearer to me. The song talks about letting the child in you break away from the grown up mask. That explained the creepy masks XD.
So the MV was still boxed and contains pretty much choreography which SME has often emphasized; still not fond of that combination but at least it works a bit for this MV.
The styling for the boys are A on my books. Taemin and Minho were dashing, Key was stunning, Jonghyun is eye catching and ONEW is perfect.
I never thought that blonde would suit the leader but heck, the stylists nailed it. The hairstyle was classic short and reminded me of Song Joongki in the latter half of The Innocent Man; very good looking Lee Jinki in the MV people. The leader was drop dead gorgeous and I swear he’s really messing my 89line bias list ^^.
Taemin and Jonghyun’s eyeliner was a bit too much for me at some close up shots but it’s tolerable I guess. And Key, the long hair was a bit off for me but the fierce black hair on his gorgeous face? Hell yeah, He’s looking damn fine^^
Minho looked a tad bit mature for this video (and if I haven’t known their ages, I’d think that he’s older than Onew) but the hairstyle is better for me compared to his very short hair in Hello MV.
The checker board floor and the black chair reminded me of UKISS’s Stop Girl MV.
I think I fell head over heels with Onew though there was a lack of close up on him; and the little close up that he had got me spazzing like a crazed fangirl. His positions were just spazz worthy and I am sure that MVP’s were feeling the same thing (Trust me on this I just died with him on the floor and posing like a pornstar *Ooops*)
Taemin is all grown up and spinning while revealing his body (*drools*) I am not a Taemint (That’s my sister’s position) but it was fun to watch him seduce without even trying (he’s sizzling)
Jonghyun was looking like a gentleman in the victorian era, the round glasses and cane were adorably suited for him. Gaahhh Jonghyun was practically oozing with hotness (the Blinger in me was just torn with Onew and Jonghyun at this point in time). Appealing~
Minho was looking rather fine and since I am not really a fan of him, I appreciate that he still pops in and makes me spazz seeing his handsome face (he has charisma people). Enough said, I like his styling.
Key… the Diva.. I wonder how the heck di he became this irresistible and lovely? He caught my eye and wow, he looks so fierce (singing Roar in the BG). Kyah… no words for him, I loved him in the MV.
Song and Choreography
Like I said, the translation of the song tells about waking everybody up and give into what makes them happy (party!). That’s my understanding, you may have yours.
I actually appreciate the fact that Minho didn’t have any rap in this song. It’s not that I don’t like Minho’s rap, but sometimes rap in kpop has been misused and abused. There are times that rap isn’t as essential as the high notes for a particular song, and Everybody is one of them. Rap would probably offset the good buildup of melody from the start.
Though lacking in rap, I appreciate Minho’s lines for pre-chorus. This made him look part of the group and not just an ‘insert minho for the rap’ which is pretty good. The boy could sing though he has a lower vocal range unlike the rest of the group, he can still sing (and yes I’m bitter to those idols that defend their lack of singing skills by saying that they are rappers).
Four members belted out towards the end; Jonghyun and Onew are no surprise, Taemin is bound to be given his spotlight and Key, wow, now SHINee’s showing off (and yes I love that they are showing everyone that they have talent).
The choreography is both funny and confusing to me at the very least: Confusing in a way that I don’t know where the whole concept was dug up and why are they acting like toy soldiers. But it was fun to watch SHINee dance such choreography and make it work (still creepy at times).
There are a few good highlights of the dance, particularly the one during Minho’s solo. The slow mo running while being lifted is kinda cute but I know it caused (and will cause) body aches all throughout their promotions.
Other highlight would be the dance interlude before the bridge. I appreciate the whole scene and how fierce and strong that part was. And Onew doing the propeller, oh wow, he can really do that? While I was at awe with Onew, I was thinking of Sunggyu and how he’ll end up getting hurt after one or two propellers, the two leaders are both similar and worlds apart XD (Oh dear,Hhigh Society made me ship the two leaders).
Overall, it was a really catchy song that I would want to listen to over and over again.
SHINee is shining back so hopefully, they’ll come out with more and more good songs~
